I apologize for the abscence of posts lately, and I really have no excuse. Now, though, the question of the day:

In order to keep a fire burning, it must be continuously stoked. This is the case with Faith and Freedom. The purpose of this site is to provoke thought, foster discussion, and generate awareness.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition - ~Patriotism: love for or devotion to one's country.~
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty short definition and deceptively straightforward. But anyone can 'say' they love their country. Here's another question - "What traits/characteristics/actions identify someone as a Patriot?"
I'm interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this.
I believe patriotism is love for or devotion to one's country. It should also be stated that it is not the same as devotion to the country's leadership. Our system is designed to drive constant debate in order to arrive at the best conclusions and to prevent too much power in one place. So, questioning or debating critical topics is crucial to the continued growth of the US, to the stability of the US, and should be considered the utmost patriotism.
ReplyDeleteThere is a side of me who would also say all service men and women are patriots. They are at the least selfless. I think without them we wouldn't be free to debate.
