Many times when I listen to the radio, watch the news, or read articles on the web, I am confronted with a question. They come in an assortment of topics and complexities. I would like to get some thoughts from others on these same questions. So, I'm starting a question-of-the-day blog, one that will be a recurring event. To start us off:
What are we entitled to as human beings? (Choose your own context...) Post thoughts to the comments section.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...
ReplyDeleteOr is that too easy?
By the way this is a great blog idea. Me and Lovell will blab about this stuff all day.
ReplyDeleteLife, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness is a great answer. That was also Shaina's response. It's pretty simple, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHappiness and personal growth through mind, body and spirit.
ReplyDeleteThis site might be bad for me. If I get into it, I'll end up writing five paragraphs at a time. I'll do my best to hold back.
ReplyDeleteTo start, I'd agree with the second half of the John Adams quote "our fathers have earned and bought it(liberty) for us". I don't believe as human beings we have a right to anything. We are born helpless, and our parents have to protect us until we grow enough to protect ourselves. Liberty, to me, is on a long list of things we don't deserve but we've been lucky enough to have.
Morally I agree we should have a right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, freedom of religion, etc. But should have and actually have are two different things. Good thing our ancestors fought so hard for us. Just another reason we have to fight hard for the next generations.
Great idea for a site Ben. I'm looking forward to some good discussions.
That is a very interesting perspective, Adam L. I will say that I agree with all of John Adams' quote, but I appreciate your point there and totally agree that we are fortunate.
ReplyDeleteI think that in our society today there are many people who are unaware of or oblivious to the things that we have, things that are taken for granted, and how easily and imperceivably they can be removed. And I don't actually mean "things," but freedoms.
"Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases."
